1985 – Camp Hale

History
On July 31, 1985, 16,129 Pathfinders filled up the mountainous valley at Camp Hale, Colorado. Being the first NAD Camporee, it took quite a bit of organizing to pull it off. The questions of water supply, sanitation, transportation and first aid were all major components that needed to be addressed before the Camporee could take place.

Everything seemed to come together however as everyone began pitching in. All in all, 1,500 people volunteered their time and efforts to help make this first NAD Camporee a reality.

BMX biking, rock climbing and archery are just a few of the numerous activities available to the Pathfinders at the Camporee. A circus bear was even brought in as a special event and many of the adults wrestled with it much to the amusement of thousands of Pathfinders laughing and watching on.

A wide variety of artistic signs marked the various conference sites and individual clubs. Conferences had arranged for clubs to buy t-shirts of one color for their members, with each club having their club name printed on it. This made for colorful daytime uniforms and also made it much easier to locate members of a club in large crowds.

A few days later, on August 6, the Pathfinders began packing up their belongings and heading back to their individual homes. It had been a long and adventurous week, but completely worth it!
