Service is Core to Pathfinder Christian Values.

The Gillette community has custom-designed a variety of unique service projects that will have a positive impact on the local residents. Pathfinder clubs will provide over 10,000 hours of “Pathfinder Power” to accomplish these goals. In planning your club’s Camporee schedule, reserve specific 3-hour sessions for your Pathfinder club to give back to the community, all for His glory!

Each participant will receive:

  • A Community Service t-shirt to be worn while serving in the community.
  • Limited edition Community Service pin – design shown above.

The 7 time sessions for Gillette Community Service are listed below.

  • Tuesday: 1:00 – 4:00pm
  • Wednesday: 8:00 – 11:00am  &  1:00 – 4:00pm
  • Thursday: 8:00 – 11:00am  &  1:00 – 4:00pm
  • Friday: 8:00 – 11:00am  &  1:00 – 4:00pm

Community Service Projects Opportunities

Who May Attend:
All age groups with a BTP wristband, accompanied by an adult staff member.

Due to the high number of people we are attempting to transport, it is imperative you arrive at the bus loading area 30 minutes early. Buses will not be held back for boarding if you arrive late.

Transportation:

  • Morning Buses will load at Cam-Plex Camporee grounds daily at 7:30am for morning projects and will leave Community Service Project sites at 11:00am to return to Cam-Plex Camporee grounds. Board buses at the TBD
  • Afternoon Buses will load at Cam-Plex Camporee grounds daily at 12:30pm for afternoon projects and will leave Community Service Project sites at 4:00pm to return to Cam-Plex Camporee grounds. Board buses at the TBD

NOTE: These buses are different than the other Off-site activity buses.


Community Service Projects – Registration

When registering your club, be prepared with the following information:

  • Number of Pathfinders and number of staff (10:1 ratio) equaling your total registration number
  • T-shirt sizes for all registered participants
Pre-registration is required to guarantee a spot for a Community service project.

Assemble Veteran Care Packages

Items will be supplied for Pathfinders to assemble care packages for Wyoming active-duty military and retired Veterans.

Cemetery Cleanup

The monuments and white vinyl veteran crosses accumulate hard water and mineral deposits from irrigation water. Pathfinders will be instructed in the simple procedure of removing these deposits. Working in teams of 2 or 3, Pathfinders will work through sections of the cemetery. Instruction and personal protective equipment will be provided.

Clean Pronghorn Center Bleachers, Tables & Chairs

Pathfinders will clean the bleachers, tables, and chairs at the Pronghorn Center, where the Camporee basketball tournaments will be held.

Clean Stored Tables & Chairs at Gillette College

Pathfinders will clean the tables and chairs that are stored at the Technical Center in preparation for the 2024 – 2025 school year.

Clean Team Buses and Wash Fleet Vehicles

Clean the inside of the Pronghorn buses. This would include wiping down the seats and cleaning the windows.

Pathfinders would also wash the outside of the fleet vehicles at Gillette College Technical Educational Center. Car washing supplies will be provided.

Cleanup Around Dalby Memorial Park

Pathfinders will pick up trash, weed and rake around the fishing lake at Dalby Memorial Park and along Donkey Creek to Gillette College.

Cleaning Tables & Chairs in Gillette College Main Building

Pathfinders will clean the tables and chairs in the main building on the Gillette College campus in preparation for the 2024 – 2025 school year.

Cleaning the High Plains Grill at Gillette College

Pathfinders will clean the dining area tables and chairs at the High Plains Grill on the campus of Gillette College. Window cleaning will also be done.

Cleaning Up Planters & Landscaping

Pathfinders will clean up the planters around Westwood High School by removing wood chips, installing landscape fabric and placing river rock on top.

Deliver Care Packages to Wyoming Veteran Home

A van of Pathfinders will travel about 1 hour to Buffalo, Wyoming to deliver care packages to the Veteran residents. This is the only Veteran home in Wyoming. Pathfinders will have 30-40 minutes to deliver packages and visit with the residents before returning to Cam-plex. Care packages will be supplied by local Veteran organizations, with Pathfinder assembly on Tuesday.

Distribution of Information for Food Drive

Pathfinders will go by twos, from house to house, in selected neighborhoods to drop off information about the Food Drive. If the residents are not home, the information will be left at the door. Several groups of Pathfinders will be dropped off in fours, to cover both sides of the road at the same time. The bus will rotate back to pick up each group as they finish their route.

Drive-Through Food Distribution - teen+

Teen Pathfinders will load heavy food boxes into vehicles as they drive through the food distribution line. This will be done in an organized way with safety precautions in place. After food is distributed, Pathfinders will assist organizers in taking down signs and general cleanup.

Landscaping - Meadowlark Elementary

Pathfinders will install landscape fabric, plant shrubs, and lay down bark in planters at Meadowlark Elementary.

Learn the Art of Crocheting & Time Capsule Sharing

Pathfinders will learn from Senior Citizens the basic stitches of crocheting using yarn provided by the Senior Center. Basic stitches of crochet can be learned quite quickly. And, as the skill is developed, it can be a life-long hobby.

The session will end with Time Capsule Sharing. Pathfinders will answer a few questions about what state or country they are from, share a few things that are the same or different when comparing Wyoming with their home state or country, and tell about the most important Senior in the Pathfinder’s life. These will be put into a time capsule.

Litter Pick-up

Pathfinders will pick up roadside litter on sections of North Garner Lake Road and North Gurley Avenue. Campbell County Public Works Department will provide heavy duty plastic bags, gloves and grabbers. Once a bag is filled, Pathfinders will tie the top and place it off the roadway to be picked up by landfill staff. Water refills and bug spray will be provided.

McManamen Park Cleanup

McManamen Park is one of 30 parks in Gillette, with a 1.31 mile paved path around Burlington Lake. As a wetland in the region, it is an oasis that attracts a wide range of wildlife and birds. Pathfinders will be picking up trash around the lake. At completion, the Conservation District will provide snacks and conservation education at the pavilion.

Mulching Around Trees

Pathfinders will assist in beautification by mulching around trees at the Energy Capital Sports Complex and along the landscaped roadsides on South 4-J.

Mural Painting & Sidewalk Art

Paint on a 5′ x 50′ mural depicting events in the founding of Gillette.  With this paint-by-number process, by the end of the week, a beautiful picture will emerge. You can also express yourself with directed chalking on Historic Downtown sidewalks. Your artwork will be viewed by the Gillette citizens as they watch the Community Pathfinder Parade on Sabbath afternoon.

Painting A Railroad Boxcar - teen+

The historic boxcar at the Rockpile Museum needs a fresh coat of paint. Teen Pathfinders will paint each morning to preserve this well-worn boxcar.

Paint Rocks with Seniors & Time Capsule Sharing

Pathfinders will join with Senior Citizens to paint rocks with acrylic paints. Painting rocks together will inspire great chats about the differences in lifestyles, hobbies, favorite foods, and the like. Participants can choose to take them home or place them around Gillette for others to find.

The session will end with Time Capsule Sharing. Pathfinders will answer a few questions about what state or country they are from, share a few things that are the same or different when comparing Wyoming with their home state or country, and tell about the most important Senior in the Pathfinder’s life. These will be put into a time capsule.

Pick Up Food Donations, Sort & Organize

Pathfinders will be taken to the food drop-off location to load donations into the back of the bus. These donations will be taken to the Council of Community Services Food Pantry for Pathfinders to sort and organize.

Plant Seedlings Along Donkey Creek

Pathfinders will plant seedlings along Donkey Creek to beautify and help prevent erosion.

Plant Bulbs & Plants

Pathfinders will be provided with a variety of plants and bulbs to be planted around the campus of Gillette College.  Small shovels and wheelbarrows will be provided. Twenty Pathfinders will be put in a group to work together at 5 locations around the college.

Play BINGO with Seniors & Time Capsule Sharing

Pathfinders will be partnered with Senior Citizens who are playing BINGO, a favorite activity. The player with the first valid BINGO wins a small prize. Then a new game begins.

The session will end with Time Capsule Sharing. Pathfinders will answer a few questions about what state or country they are from, share a few things that are the same or different when comparing Wyoming with their home state or country, and tell about the most important Senior in the Pathfinder’s life. These will be put into a time capsule.

Quilted Hearts with Seniors & Time Capsule Sharing

Pathfinders will join with Senior Citizens to attach ribbons, beads, lace and buttons to fabric hearts. These hearts can be placed around the community of Gillette or in the youth’s hometown, to share a caring message of hope to those who find the hearts later.

The session will end with Time Capsule Sharing. Pathfinders will answer a few questions about what state or country they are from, share a few things that are the same or different when comparing Wyoming with their home state or country, and tell about the most important Senior in the Pathfinder’s life. Re-landscaping of Plant & Tree Beds

Resident & Community Car Wash - Primrose

Pathfinders will wash and hand-dry the Primrose Retirement Community of Gillette resident and staff cars. In addition, the community will be invited to bring a vehicle by for a free car wash. Plan to work hard and have fun.

Senior Olympics

With the Summer Olympics taking place in 2024, Primrose Retirement Community of Gillette is hosting its own Senior Olympics. Pathfinders will have the opportunity to assist the residents in participating in this 3-day event.

Sort Clothing

Two or more strong Pathfinders are needed to bring bags and boxes of donated clothing from the shed into the “From Me to You Clothes Swap” building. Clothing will be sorted and put in assigned boxes by size and gender. The sorted clothing will be neatly put on hangers and transported on racks to be put out.

Sorting & Packing Food Boxes

A Humanitarian Food Truck with 24 pallets of food will be unloaded, sorted and boxed in family-sized boxes for distribution. This project will be done outside, in preparation for the afternoon drive-through food distribution. Pathfinders will be packing food items into boxes, lifting, and pulling pallet jacks for box placement. The process will be organized and fast-paced, to accomplish this large project in the allotted time.

Stain Railings & Deck of Bridge

Pathfinders will stain the railings and the deck of the boardwalk bridge at Dalby Memorial Park.

Sweeping & Washing Resident Garage Floors

Twice a year, the staff at Primrose Retirement Community of Gillette clean and wash the resident garage floors. Pathfinders will be able to do this for the fall by sweeping them out, and then pressure washing the floors.

Transfer Playground Sand to Volleyball Court

Pathfinders will dig out sand from the current playground in Dalby Memorial Park, put into wheelbarrows and take it to the volleyball court. Pathfinders will smooth out the new sand to freshen up the court. They will then replace the sand at the playground with an engineered wood fiber bark.

Trash Pick Up at Gillette College

A Friday afternoon clean-up service project, after Pathfinders have used many buildings and outside spaces on the Gillette College campus for off-site activities during the week.

Pathfinders will pick up trash on the campus along Donkey Creek, sidewalks, parking lots, the main campus building and the Pronghorn Center and Tech Center.

Pathfinders will be weeding around several locations at Gillette College.  Five groups of 20 will go to different parts of the campus to pull weeds on Tuesday afternoon.
